INSTRUCTORS > PIA FISCHER BIOGRAPHY
Pia Fischer was born in Switzerland. She was trained as a teacher, and her love for movement and expression brought her to dancing, particularly Graham Technique and jazzdance. Knee problems forced Pia to quit dancing in the early eighties and persue a new career. She studied Cranio Sacral Therapy with Franklyn Sills, Michael Shea and Hugh Milne and worked as a practitioner and teacher of Cranio Sacral Therapy for almost 30 years. Believing dancing was no longer possible, she also became a yoga teacher and practitioner (hatha yoga and yoga dance) and had her own studio in Switzerland for almost 20 years. In 2005, the urgent desire to dance again and painful back problems led her to Butohdance. Putting dance back into the center of her life was an important turning point. Pia studied Butoh with Susanne Daeppen, Atshushi Tachenouchi, Minako Seki, Yumiko Yoshioka, Yuko Kaseki and Rhizome Lee and performed as a Butoh dancer and in collaboration with installation artists. In 2011 Pia took a sabbatical and moved to Berlin to further study and perform Butoh. During this time she discovered Body Mind Centering, Laban and Bartenieff Movement Studies, Embodied Anatomy, and Klein Technique™. She became extremely interested in Klein Technique™ because the work helped with the severe backpain that she was still experiencing. Through studying Klein Technique™ the back pain resolved and is now almost gone. Pia is now a member of the fourth Klein Technique™ Teachers Certification Program.
